Importing and syncing
Google Sheets
Manage your stores in a Google Sheet that syncs to Shoppy Store Locator, so you can add and update stores from a spreadsheet.
With Google Sheets, your store list lives in a spreadsheet. Add or change stores in the sheet, and the changes are copied into Shoppy Store Locator. It’s handy if your team already keeps stores in a spreadsheet.
Before you start
Connect your Google account first. See Connect your Google account.
Create your spreadsheet
- Go to Google My Business in the app menu.
- Under Google Sheets, click Create spreadsheet.
The app creates a sheet called Shoppy Store Locator Stores Spreadsheet and shares it with your Google account, so you can edit it. Find it in your Google Drive, under Shared with me.
The sheet starts with a header row and an example store. Replace the example with your own stores.
Fill in the sheet
Keep the header row as it is, and use one row per store. The columns work the same way as in a CSV import:
| Column | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
StoreName |
Yes | The store name. |
StoreId |
No | Leave empty for a new store. Enter a store’s ID to update it. |
Handle |
No | A short name for the store’s web address. Leave empty to make one. |
Address, City, State, Country, Zip |
Yes | The store’s full address. |
PhoneNumber |
See tip | The full phone number, including the country code. |
Email |
See tip | The store’s email address. |
ShortDescription, Description |
No | Text for the store list and the store’s page. |
Status |
Yes | active or inactive, in lowercase. |
Tags |
No | Tags separated by commas, for example Outlet,Service centre. |
Tips:
- Fill in
PhoneNumberandEmailfor every store, with valid values. The sheet is checked as a whole before it syncs, and an empty or invalid phone number or email can stop the sync. - Leave a store’s
StoreIdempty only the first time. After the first sync, add each store’s ID (its Store code in the app) to that row, so later syncs update the store instead of adding a copy. - Each sync applies every column as it is. An empty cell clears that detail on the store.
- The app finds each store’s pin from its address. New stores get your default trading hours.
- The sheet also has
PhoneCountryCodeandWebsitecolumns. These aren’t copied into the app at the moment, so put the full phone number inPhoneNumber, and add a store’s website on the store itself.
For more on each column, see Import stores from a CSV file.
Sync the sheet
Once the spreadsheet exists, the Google Sheets card shows two buttons:
- Pull sheet: copies the sheet into Shoppy Store Locator now.
- Watch sheet: syncs automatically whenever the sheet changes. Click Stop watching sheet to turn it off.
After a sync, check the Stores page, including the Not on map tab for any address the app couldn’t find.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Nothing changes after a sync | Check every row has the required columns, a valid email and phone number, and active or inactive as the status. |
| Stores are added twice | Add each store’s StoreId to its row after the first sync. |
| Edits stopped syncing automatically | Click Pull sheet to sync now. If it keeps happening, click Stop watching sheet, then Watch sheet again. |
| You can’t find the spreadsheet | Look in Google Drive under Shared with me, signed in with the Google account you connected. |
